Daniel Craig is impressed with David Fincher...

...especially how he's handled the violence in their upcoming remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Collider has the story:

Daniel Craig hasn’t been seen in theaters since 2008′s Defiance but he’ll have four films coming to us this year. In a few weeks we’ll see him in Cowboys & Aliens, he’s got the horror flick Dream House in September, he did motion capture for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and he wraps up the year with David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He can expect plenty of questions about Bond 23 and we can expect that he’ll answer almost none of them. However, he is willing to talk Dragon Tattoo in an awkwardly written quasi-interview with Esquire.

Here’s what Craig had to say about how The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the increasingly rare drama for adults:

“It’s as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama. I grew up, as we fucking all did, watching The Godfather and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore. And Fincher, he’s not holding back. They’ve given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, ‘Are you fucking serious?’”

And why did Craig find those scenes so shocking?

“[It's] not that he simply showed me footage that was horribly graphic. It was stuff that was happening, or had happened. And somehow you don’t see it… There’s more than one way to sense violence. Much more powerful ways than seeing it step-by-step.”

In the Swedish adaptation, director Niels Arden Oplev didn’t shy away from the brutality, but it almost felt fetishistic. [Spoiler Alert] The overall mystery storyline of solving a decades-old disappearance was overshadowed by the rape of Lisbeth Salander by her parole officer and her violent retribution. That exchange happens in the first act of the story and it makes the mystery storyline feel small. I have faith that Fincher can reestablish the balance, but the greater problem may lie in the flaws of Steig Larsson’s original novel.

Could David Fincher be fully embracing his dark side again?

Vulture has this to say:

With The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, David Fincher seems to be emerging from his Oscar-bait phase and re-indulging in his love of dark thrillers. And now Vulture hears that Fincher has just optioned Jason Starr’s 2009 macabre crime novel Panic Attack, about a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim's vengeful accomplice. We're also told that Fincher has set Ocean’s Eleven and Tower Heist screenwriter Ted Griffin to adapt the book.

We hear Panic Attack will be part of Fincher’s recently formed company, Panic Pictures. (Boy, factor in Panic Room and this guy really has a thing about that word.) His company is set up at Media Rights Capital, the production and financing entity that allows filmmakers to retain ownership of their films while getting major Hollywood studios to bid on distributing the movies for a fee.

Starr is a prolific crime novelist. His tenth book, The Pack (about werewolf stay-at-home dads run amok on the Upper West Side, naturally), hits bookstores next week, but four of his previous novels are already in development in Hollywood in one form or another. Most notably, his 2008 thriller, The Follower, is set up at Starz, with Bret Easton Ellis adapting.

Reached by Vulture, Starr had few details on the project’s timeline, but did offer up his thoughts to budding crime novelists on what makes for a good thriller: He insists it's the villain, and not your hero, who makes a thriller thrilling. “And the thing about Panic Attack is that there’s a really compelling antihero in this guy Johnny Long [the revenge-minded cohort stalking the psychiatrist and his family]," says Starr. "He’s a very clever, Ripley-esque psychopath.”

No word on whether the equally prolific Fincher (who is producing the Kevin Spacey series House of Cards for Netflix) intends to direct himself or farm it out in the same fashion M. Night Shyamalan did at MRC with Devil, but we’ll keep you informed.

Yes, the marketing is slowly coming out now, though it's still up for debate as to how much is viral. I like the look of the poster very much, completely feeling like a "David Fincher" movie, though I recognize that the domestic ones will not be quite the same. Is the "leak" of the Red Band 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Trailer just viral marketing?

As you all know, I wasn't going to post the trailer, sticking to my guns of not supporting piracy. However, a few reports (like this one here) have pegged it as a controlled leak of sorts, considering that the video hasn't been taken down. Now, I still normally would just wait the extra 3 days and simply post the official Green Band trailer for you all, but at the off chance this version is different than the one coming this week, I decided to bite my tongue and post it. Especially in case some of you haven't seen it yet, I figured it wasn't fair to be a stubborn ass about it. So, here you go:

Video - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – Red Band Trailer Leaked – Or was it?

It’s being called the feel bad movie for Christmas.

Everybody has been dying to see an official movie trailer.

And now, the red band trailer has been leaked to the internet.

Or has it?

In what appears to be a leaked movie trailer for director David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” we get our first glimpse of what’s to come.

But some experts are saying it was not a leak at all, but rather a clever marketing ploy by Sony to make it look like a leak.

“If this was a real leak, Sony would have pulled that trailer off YouTube so fast it wouldn’t have been funny. This was no leak. The sound is exceptional, and there is an American MPAA rating that shouldn’t be there in a European trailer. We think Sony knew exactly what they were doing”.

Agreed.

This looks an awful lot like a “Cloverfield” type viral video stunt by Sony to get the trailer into American hands, and the web site shown at the end of the trailer redirects to Sony’s main move portal.



Sneaky? Yes, and very effective.

This would not be the first time Sony has used viral videos to promote an upcoming project.

The film remake of the popular book is said to be costing $100 Million to complete and stars Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Rooney Mara, Embeth Davidtz.

For those not familiar with “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” book, here is a little overview.

The original Swedish title translated into English as "Men Who Hate Women"), and is an award-winning crime novel by Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, the first in his "Millennium series".

Don't look for the Red Band 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Trailer here just yet...

...as I'm not posting the bootleg one like some other sites are. The official trailer will be out in a matter of days (and some of those unlucky enough to have been swindled into seeing 'The Hangover Part II' have seen the trailer as well), so just sit tight. Soon enough, we'll be seeing a nice crisp look at David Fincher's vision of these books, so stay tuned!
