Spielberg talks Jurassic Park 4' and other projects

According to The Wrap:

Legendary director Steven Spielberg said on Friday he's on track to make a fourth in his "Jurassic Park" blockbuster series.

"We have a script," he told a cheering crowd in the massive Hall H at this year's Comic-Con convention.

He was there to promote the upcoming film "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn," and his collaborator, producer-director Peter Jackson, was a surprise arrival. (He was on a filming break from "The Hobbit," which he said has another 200 days before it wraps.)

Spielberg said he was working on a Jurassic script with his partners and expected a new "Jurassic Park" would be out in "two to three years."

It’s been 10 years since the last “Jurassic Park,” the third in the series.

That movie took in $365 million in worldwide box office.

The first film in 1993 was the first time audiences got to see computer graphic characters generated on a huge screen, in this case dinosaurs.

Meanwhile, the panel with Jackson showed the latest in motion-capture techology, with clips of "Tintin." The main character, a Belgian journalist who gets involved in all kinds of life-risking adventures, is voiced by Jamie Bell.

Spielberg noted that he hadn't been aware of the classic Tintin comic books until he saw a review of his movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark" comparing the Indiana Jones film to the Georges Remi books.

"I don't read French, but I didn't need to read the words, I could see the commonality," Spielberg said.

The director also talked about casting big names such as Daniel Craig in a movie that applies performance-capture technology and thus, strictly speaking, doesn't literally feature the actors.

"As with casting all movies, you find the best actor for the part," Spielberg said. "You don't identify Daniel Craig, you won't see his face, but you will see every nuance of his performance through the thin digital skin that [special-effects company] Weta created."

Spielberg was joined by "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson, who flew into town from filming "The Hobbit" to discuss the movie, which he produced. Unlike Spielberg, Jackson grew up as a fan of the books.

"I was a huge Tintin fan, and I was looking forward to Steven's Tintin movie. I was kind of looking forward to it for a quarter-century," Jackson said.

During the question and answer, a fan stood up wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the message that he really hoped to meet Steven Spielberg and shake his hand. So the director obliged (see photo)

Before discussing his latest big-screen venture, the fabled director was bestowed an award for his esteemed catalog of work.

"We're all in the same world together; let's keep working together," Spielberg said while thanking the audience and clutching the trophy.

Daniel Craig is impressed with David Fincher...

...especially how he's handled the violence in their upcoming remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Collider has the story:

Daniel Craig hasn’t been seen in theaters since 2008′s Defiance but he’ll have four films coming to us this year. In a few weeks we’ll see him in Cowboys & Aliens, he’s got the horror flick Dream House in September, he did motion capture for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and he wraps up the year with David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He can expect plenty of questions about Bond 23 and we can expect that he’ll answer almost none of them. However, he is willing to talk Dragon Tattoo in an awkwardly written quasi-interview with Esquire.

Hit the jump to read what Craig had to say about the adult-nature of the film and how Fincher is handling the violence in the story. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21st.

Here’s what Craig had to say about how The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the increasingly rare drama for adults:

“It’s as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama. I grew up, as we fucking all did, watching The Godfather and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore. And Fincher, he’s not holding back. They’ve given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, ‘Are you fucking serious?’”

And why did Craig find those scenes so shocking?

“[It's] not that he simply showed me footage that was horribly graphic. It was stuff that was happening, or had happened. And somehow you don’t see it… There’s more than one way to sense violence. Much more powerful ways than seeing it step-by-step.”

In the Swedish adaptation, director Niels Arden Oplev didn’t shy away from the brutality, but it almost felt fetishistic. [Spoiler Alert] The overall mystery storyline of solving a decades-old disappearance was overshadowed by the rape of Lisbeth Salander by her parole officer and her violent retribution. That exchange happens in the first act of the story and it makes the mystery storyline feel small. I have faith that Fincher can reestablish the balance, but the greater problem may lie in the flaws of Steig Larsson’s original novel.

Look for James Bond to return to theaters on November 9th of 2012!

Collider has the details:

If you’re a James Bond fanatic and want to see director Sam Mendes take on the character as soon as possible, start saving for a ticket to the United Kingdom. That’s because MGM and Sony Pictures have set a October 26, 2012 release for Bond 23 in the U.K., which is two weeks before America (November 9, 2012). Production on the 23rd installment is set to begin later this year. In case you missed our previous stories, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes have both been in talks with producers about taking on two separate roles, with Bardem being offered the villain. While I loved Casino Royale, I thought Quantum of Solace was a missed opportunity. However, Daniel Craig was great in both films and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Speaking of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...here's the International Poster!

Yes, the marketing is slowly coming out now, though it's still up for debate as to how much is viral. I like the look of the poster very much, completely feeling like a "David Fincher" movie, though I recognize that the domestic ones will not be quite the same. It's a slightly adult image, so you can see the poster (and a second one) after the jump...

-Thoughts?

Is the "leak" of the Red Band 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Trailer just viral marketing?

As you all know, I wasn't going to post the trailer, sticking to my guns of not supporting piracy. However, a few reports (like this one here) have pegged it as a controlled leak of sorts, considering that the video hasn't been taken down. Now, I still normally would just wait the extra 3 days and simply post the official Green Band trailer for you all, but at the off chance this version is different than the one coming this week, I decided to bite my tongue and post it. Especially in case some of you haven't seen it yet, I figured it wasn't fair to be a stubborn ass about it. So, here you go:

Video - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – Red Band Trailer Leaked – Or was it?

It’s being called the feel bad movie for Christmas.

Everybody has been dying to see an official movie trailer.

And now, the red band trailer has been leaked to the internet.

Or has it?

In what appears to be a leaked movie trailer for director David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” we get our first glimpse of what’s to come.

But some experts are saying it was not a leak at all, but rather a clever marketing ploy by Sony to make it look like a leak.

“If this was a real leak, Sony would have pulled that trailer off YouTube so fast it wouldn’t have been funny. This was no leak. The sound is exceptional, and there is an American MPAA rating that shouldn’t be there in a European trailer. We think Sony knew exactly what they were doing”.

Agreed.

This looks an awful lot like a “Cloverfield” type viral video stunt by Sony to get the trailer into American hands, and the web site shown at the end of the trailer redirects to Sony’s main move portal.

Sneaky? Yes, and very effective.

This would not be the first time Sony has used viral videos to promote an upcoming project.

The film remake of the popular book is said to be costing $100 Million to complete and stars Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Rooney Mara, Embeth Davidtz.

For those not familiar with “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” book, here is a little overview.

The original Swedish title translated into English as "Men Who Hate Women"), and is an award-winning crime novel by Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, the first in his "Millennium series".

A complete plot summary can be found here on Wikipedia.

After seeing this movie trailer and knowing about the book trilogy – we can’t wait to see this movie.
