t.A.T.u. perform on Wetten Dass in Germany 2003

December 30, 1991 : Napalm Beach & Dead Moon LIVE in Fulda, Germany.

I have been throwing stuff at the wall. It’s been sliding off.

My latest bright idea was to a radio show from a youtube playlist. I tried it twice before I declared it a fail. Two major problems: 1. my download speed isn’t fast enough and 2. the sound levels (and quality) of youtube videos are too spotty.

So I’ve got to re-group. Being as my sweetheart is a rather prolific songwriter, and has been for about three decades, and being as I’ve been archiving a lot of his stuff, it is natural that I might turn to the department of shameless self-promotion. But I do feel terribly guilty about it. There are so many good bands, even just in Portland….

So I hope to soon work out some kind of PO box or drop-off location so that other acts can throw more stuff at me and I can start to really CREATE shows, as opposed to the scrabbling and scrambling I’ve been doing lately.

But tonight, this. I am pretty certain these are two live sets that few have heard in their entirety, and some are sure to dig it. The show took place in Fulda, Germany, in December of 1990, at a club called Kreutzsaal.

There were three bands, a band from Ellensburg, Washington called King Crab, then two Portland bands: Napalm Beach, and Dead Moon. Each of the three band played a one-hour set.

The bands were filmed by a Dutch videographer He placed a couple snips from the night on youtube, writing “Well get in touch with me if you like to get the entire show… for private eyes only.” So I contacted him, gave him some money for his trouble, and he sent us a DVD which doesn’t work on most DVD players, but it works on my computer.

Tonight I willplay two of the sets from that night: Napalm Beach, and Dead Moon. I do not wish to play the King Crab set, because I think it, frankly, kinda sucked. I did give a copy of this DVD to one of the guys from King Crab and he kinda said the same thing…..

In fact, I haven’t really sat and listened to both NB and DM sets in their entirety yet, so this will be a first for me, too. What I’ve heard has been cool and intense though. It was a big crowd in a big room, and the calendar was about to flip to 1991.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

~Einstein

So, I think we are insane—Marko and I. 2 trains later after going wayyy out of the way to the student housing in Chiemgastraße we missed the last bloody train AGAIN.

This time we just found our friends and remained there for the night.

Now why were we there?
There was a party-of course. Well more of a get together. They fired up the grill, bought some beers, layed out the blankets and whipped out guitars. I made some more friends—complete with monikers to help me remember: Princess Diana, Kobe Bryant, and Honey. There was also the tutor for that housing, but I forgot his name. He was veryyy nice. (I am debating whether to reveal my opinions on European men on here.)

Oh and mint vodka from Finland is quite tasty, even if Marko kept comparing it to Listerine (which is actually bottled hell).

Oh, and I didn’t waste the day. That was actually our first day of classes. We met at the university. Marko, Travis, and I were late of course, since the U-Bahn is kicking our butts up and down Munich. We separated our language groups—me in beginning, of course.

Language class is painfully boring. I hate language classes with a passion, but it’s a necessary evil for this program. We sat and reviewed the simple phrases that I already knew.

Oh, and my computer was being retarded about the internet so I had to go the the cranky computer help desk guy and get it fixed.

It got working. yay!

Advanced German finished early, so my U-Bahn buddies took off without me.

But I was planning on buy my phone card and Groceries. So, my friend and I went to Lidl (European store brand). Then I went back to my place to finish shopping since I forgot my money. Convieniently, Marko and Travis were walking in at the right moment, so we confirmed plans for the night. I was trying to go to Aldi, but I ended up only making it to Rewe since my foot was starting to cramp up. When the food was packed I decided to visit my tutor, and also to fix my internet. As the tutor and I were walking back into my place, Marko was at my door. He had figured out the internet and was coming to fix mine.

Anyways, the tutor went away and then Marko, Travis and I went to the party and that how Marko and I ended up stranded. Ja.

Oh, and that creepy picture is one of the carved wall faces on the LMU campus on the way to Mensa (cafeteria). BTW, that food was awful.
