Tracy Morgan's Homophobic Remarks In Anti-Gay Stand Up Set UPDATE

Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan issued a statement to The Huffington Post through his representative:

“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

30 Rock actor Tracy Morgan has issued an apology to fans and the gay and lesbian community for an anti-gay rant during his weekend gig at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium that has landed him in hot water.

“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others,” Morgan said in a statement. “While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

Nashville native Kevin Rogers, whose detailed account of the event on Facebook first grabbed media attention, spoke with EW earlier today and said he had gone to the show expecting a night of comedy, but left feeling “like the butt of the joke” after the 30 Rock actor launched into his tirade. ”I can take a joke, but I absolutely did not expect a rant like this in the middle of a comedy act,” Rogers told EW via phone.

According to Rogers’ account, Morgan informed the audience “that the gays needed to quit being p—ies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying” and that “if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man…or he would pull out a knife and stab that little [n-----] to death.”

Rogers says before the rant, Morgan’s humor (specifically his comments about enjoying when women choke during oral sex) had proved too much for many audience members. But once Morgan launched into his anti-gay comments, more began to leave. Rogers said he stayed for the entire show. “I had to fight myself. I don’t really give in easily and I thought…if I stand up and leave, he wins. It shows him, ‘Hey, I got to you.’ He didn’t get to me. I wasn’t angry; I was just disappointed.I thought he was more intelligent than that,” he says.

GLAAD released a statement today calling for Morgan’s management to “investigate these allegations and should they prove true, we call on him to remove these violently anti-gay remarks from his show and send a strong message that anti-gay violence is not something to joke about.” Hours later, Morgan issued his apology.

A rep for Morgan’s 30 Rock boss, Tina Fey, a well known LGBT advocate, has not responded to a request for comment.

He's responsible for many a joke on '30 Rock,' but if true, Tracy Morgan's latest standup set is no laughing matter. A man named Kevin Rogers attended Morgan's standup show last Friday and reported on his Facebook page that Morgan let loose a viciously homophobic rant that, as far as he could tell, was a dead serious attack on gay men and women. Rogers, who is gay, wrote:

Tracy Morgan Spews Anti-Gay and Homophobic Slurs During Stand-up Show – Fans Walk Out

Some of us know comedian Tracy Morgan from his days on Saturday Night Live.

But most know him from his role as Tracy Jordan on NBC’s comedy “30 Rock” created by Tina Fey.

But there are a growing number of people getting to know Morgan for his stand-up comedy shows and homophobic anti-gay rants.

And last night he may have gone too far.

While performing at the famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last night, Morgan went on a homophobic anti-gay rant that sent people heading for the exits.

While some off-color jokes are to be expected during a live stand-up show, we think some of the things Morgan said went a little too far.

Here are a few examples of Tracy’s comments:

“Being gay is a choice because God don't make no mistakes”

"There is no way a woman could love and have sexual desire for another woman"

"Gays need to quit being pussies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying"

"Gay is something that kids learn from the media and TV programming"

Morgan went on to say that if his son ever told him he was gay or being bullied that -

“He "better talk to me like a man and not in a gay voice or I'll pull out a knife and stab that little n**** to death"

And he continued even as audience members booed and walked out saying he didn’t care if he pissed of gay people -

“Because if they can take a f***ing dick up their a** they can take a f***ing joke."

He also said that President Obama should “man up” and stop standing up for gay and lesbian teenagers.

There was more - but you get the idea.

Sounds more like hate speech then comedy to me.

Neither Morgan or anybody on his staff have been willing to comment, but the folks at Ryman felt it necessary to clear the air saying,

“The Ryman Auditorium regrets that people were offended by statements made by Tracy Morgan during his June 3 appearance.  The Ryman does not control the content presented by people appearing on its stage, nor does it endorse any of the views of, or statements made by, such persons.”

The sad news is this is not the first time Morgan has upset his audience during his stand-up act.

In 2009, people walked out of his show at Carnegie Hall after the same type of anti-gay comments, and insults against the President and first family saying,

“Obama is really changing the White House because he and Michelle will have the first presidential sex tape out.”

What a different world it is for Morgan outside of his television show.

And we never really “got” Morgan’s role on “30 Rock”.

Think about it, you never really see him do anything for the fake “TGS” show other than screw things up and make life difficult for everybody around him.

Yet, the entire TGS staff seems to fall over each other to try and please him and keep him on a show we never get to see in the first place. Strange indeed.

And the jokes and comments he makes are almost those of a child.

It’s the same thing in real life on the talk show circuit.

Ever seen him on Leno or the Daily Show?

His jokes just aren’t funny and his comments are so “out there” it seems like he is some eighteen year old high school drop out with no education at all.

Good luck Tracy, but don’t confuse the size of your paycheck with the size of your “funny”.

Alec Baldwin Says ’30 Rock’ Ending Next Season – Tina Fey Leaving the Show – Developing

“30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin attended a fundraiser Monday night in New York City when he dropped a bombshell.

Baldwin told reporters that next season will be the LAST season for “30 Rock”. When asked about the award winning sitcom Baldwin answered,

"I will tell you one thing - and that is next year is our last year of the show. Our contracts expire in 2012, and Tina is going to have a big career directing films and writing. She's going to be the next Elaine May. She'll be great."

Okay, we don’t know who Elaine May is but…

Baldwin has hinted around in the past that 2012 would be HIS last year, but this is the first we have heard about Tina Fey leaving. But it only makes sense; I have to admit that I think the show has really gone down in quality this last season.

I think people have grown really tired of Jack and his women problems, and Tracey Morgan is such an idiot that he should be on a children’s show – not a prime time network series. Morgan’s character is so absolutely horrible that it makes you wonder why the show would even want him as host of the fictitious “TGS”.

I’m sure it’s hard to keep the writing and plot mojo of the first couple of seasons going, but if this last season is any indication of what we can expect for the next - then it’s time to pull the plug.

I much rather see Tina Fey in a new, funnier show where she once again has the creative run of the ship and can start with a clean slate.

However, in-as-much as it is Tina’s show (she created it and executive produces it), and with no disrespect to Alec Baldwin, I think we need to wait until we actually hear the same words coming from Tina Fey.

After all, this would not be the first time Baldwin spoke out of turn. This could all just be pre-positioning before next year’s contract negotiations.

And you know that things in Hollywood are never what they seem on the surface…
