MALIK SAAKA...an inspired life

Emerging artist
m a l i k  s a a k a
creates
works inviting us
to lose ourselves in lovely.

and how cool is his name?

My connection with Malik
happened the instant someone who
knows me well emailed a photo
of one of his paintings.

This led to:
a knock on his door,
a warm embrace,
laughter,
the chance to view his incredible portfolio in person,
and the beginning of a friendship.

Oh and my art collection of this rising star.

Malik's work is full of intrigue and TINY FEET!

Care to eavesdrop on my chat with Mr. Saaka?

me:
WHY HONOR CREATIVITY?

malik:
"It's just as valuable as a natural resource
and just as hard to find an alternative for.

True innovation is priceless and should be
treated as such so that we as a society
can inspire the next generation,
and so on and so forth."

Did I mention he is still in college?
Uh-huh.

me:
WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN
YOU HEAR 'BEAUTY IN IMPERFECTION?'

malik:
"Dirty rainwater, transgendered super models, and my artwork."

omg i'm still crazy bout this piece.

me:
TELL ME ABOUT HUMOR IN YOUR LIFE AND WORK.

malik:
"It's totally irrelevant to my work
(where I focus more on the macabre);
however, it permeates every other aspect of my life."

I can attest, folks. He's hilarious.

mixed media piece in my collection

me:
WHAT THINGS ARE INSPIRING YOU RIGHT NOW?

malik:
"Riccardo Tisci's work at Givenchy,
70's Japanese exploitation films,
and my little sister Zahra."

See...just another reason I respect the artist.
I have zero frame of reference for any of
his inspirations...leaving even more to discover
in his work and the workings of his mind.

no tiny feet yet lovely

me:
SUGGESTIONS FOR FINDING LOVELY
AND SACREDNESS IN THE "EVERYDAY?"

malik:
"Take time to live in the moment.
Learn what you as an individual value.
Try to incorporate that in everyday activities."

So many fashionable details springing
from the depths of his imagination.

Malik's blog is a place of edgy experimentation.
Translation:
Do not pop an Ambien  and then hop over to his
tumblr thinking tiny dancers...trust me on this.

It's full of macabre magic,
work samples, and his contact info.
Email him to ask about originals for sale
(range is $35-200) or email me,
and I'll gladly help.

(The young artist is open to strange custom requests
even from neurotically charming suburban moms...
mine was something like:
"Currently obsessed with Joan of Arc,
think the color pink should be incorporated,
and wish something better could be done with her hair.")

I know. I know. Poor guy.

Thank you for your inspiration, Malik.
So blessed to know you and follow your artful journey.

ever-chic: malik

original is mine - find yours by perusing here and emailing the artist.

It's freezing cold outside
The trees are bare.
The sky is one great big grey cloud.
Today we need a diversion.

Let's enter a fantasy land
of the ever-chic
M  A  L  I  K
 shall we?

I love these fanciful ladies dancing off the painting.

Isn't Mr. Malik Saaka's imagination amazing?

This is a piece I recently commissioned
which features an explosion of...

magic.

How cool would this energetic Malik piece be
in a Soho loft
in a French villa
in the oval office
in a bitchen teepee
or a Malibu shangrila?

And this dream would feel most at home
in the Louvre.

Religious references often show up
in his work.

(I'm crazy about her, Malik, if you're reading this
and I'm hoping you will comment at the end if you are!)

Malik already knows how I feel about
this fabulous one!
(Woozy.)

STUNNING!
Do take a peek at more Malik here.
I am a fan and friend of this handsome
and intelligent emerging artist and
blogged previously here.

All his art is for sale,
and the work just may carry you
to ever-chic otherworlds.

(Which is lovely since suddenly
 the frozen forest outside
seems not so forlorn and hopeless
as I am reminded
SPRING DELICIOUSNESS
is simply resting for a little while.)

stuff probably on your list for Santa too

Plus Architecture

1.
This too cool laptop pod lounge.
And I need an artist to
give my lounge's walls the same
ebony and ivory
tree mural like this one in Australia.
 Keep in mind I'm practical
so let's add a disco ball so the space
can be versatile.

Spaltana

2.
This gin twist table lamp.

3.
This lamp too!

Tom Frenchen

4.
This modern sculpture which makes me smile.

5.
A teeny helium balloon.
(The world's smallest advertising
balloons were distributed at a fair
in London...how presh presh precious.)

Haven in Paris

6.
A week or two rendezvous
in a posh Paris rental.
No, I haven't visited France before.
Yes, I prefer walking distance to Poilane Bakery.

Damith Premathilake

7.
A shipping container shangrila.
(I may need the double height
version, but I can certainly be flexible.)

8.
A painting with soul like this by Malik.
(This one is sold, dang it.)

An abstract with pinks like this.

My youth.

The pre-childbirth bosom, more collagen,

The
d i v i n e
a r t i s t r y
of

malik saaka

may take you by surprise.

Emerging artist Malik
is a full time student at Mizzou,
and it was my honor to shhhhhh! score a sneak peek
at his collection
before a recent exhibition.

Hiding delight
is not one of my special talents
so I may have said 'kill me now'
or punched Malik hard in the gut
(most likely I chanted 'dreeeeaaamy' an annoying
amount of times).

"I can tell you right now that my creative process is one of obsession and I get pretty incensed when I work and usually produce works in an unofficial series, almost as if there is a thin thread connecting each work but said thread is stretched to it's limits and then I start on a new series."

I can tell you right now Malik is brilliant.

Can't wait to receive
my MS originals!

Inquire about
his engaging inventory
or commission a work

Personality! Tiny feet!

I'm shutting up.
