Seth MacFarlane to Create New Flintstones Series for FOX.

May sweeps are in full swing, and the network upfronts are behind us.

One big piece of news that emerged last week was Fox’s intent to bring back the animated series the Flintstones with funnyman Set MacFarlane at the helm.

We can already hear the erocktion jokes…

Yes, we know there have been numerous remakes of the Flintstones over the years… but can you imagine what MacFarlane is capable of doing with the new series?

Seth, Fox’s $100 Million man, has received the green light to create and produce the new animated series for an expected 2013 showing.

Part of the deal with Fox also gives MacFarlane the right to create at least one movie version of the new Flintstones show. Anything has to be better than Rosie O’Donnell, John Goodman, and Rick Moranis.

Remember that 1994 mishap?

MacFarlane is no stranger to animated series, or pushing the envelope of what is acceptable on television.

His current series Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show are all current hits but not without their own controversy.

Family guy was cancelled two times by FOX before they realized they had a hit on their hands and let it roll on. And American Dad has come under scrutiny for its rude and tasteless jokes.

But America has fallen in love with Stan, Stewie, Lois, Meg, Bryan, Quagmire, Joe, and Francine, and we suspect we will also fall in love with the new Fred and Barney.

But MacFarlane may not be able to get away with the same kind of dark humor with this series as several entities including Hanna Barbara and Warner Brothers have an interest in keeping their brand somewhat wholesome.

Gary Newman of Twentieth Century Fox says,

“It’s going to be put under a microscope because people are so nostalgic about the brand. But Seth is going to be very respectful of the original. It’s a show that is perfect for recreating because it was a comment on the 1960’s through the prism of a Stone Age family. And now we have the ability to comment on the 21st century. It’s the type of property that’s perfect for someone like Seth MacFarlane who just loves social commentary.”

MacFarlane, who voices several of his original characters, has been quite as to who will participate on the project or provide the voices.

But, we do have a little insight on how Set MacFarlane has dealt with Fred and Barney in the past….

Video - Bill O'Reilly vs. Jon Stewart – Who Do You Think Won?

Last night we got to witness two American icons going head to head.

This has only happened one other time in cable television history.

Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show”, and poppa bear Bill O’Reilly, host of Fox’s “O’Reilly Factor”, faced of last night to discuss the invitation of rapper Common as a White House Guest.

Stewart accused Bill, and Fox News Channel, of creating a controversy for ratings, and O’Reilly… well, we’re not sure what Bill was trying to argue.

When O’Reilly actually let Stewart speak, there was enough hypocrisy to go around for everyone.

So, instead of giving you a blow by blow we’ll just let you watch the video and form your own opinion.

Personal Note:

InfoStar’s only bias is….. wait for it…… We hate Bill O’Reilly and the entire family at Fox News – other than that we feel we can be fair and balanced.

FOX Pulls Episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show

FOX says they have pulled an upcoming series of shows of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show because they could be insensitive to viewers.

The episodes were written as a trilogy of sorts, where a hurricane bares down on all three TV families with overlapping animations in what is titled "Animation Domination."

But due to the tornadoes and storms that tore through the south this week, FOX decided to hold the episodes over until next season saying,

"In light of the recent storms that have affected the nation, Fox has decided to postpone the crossover episodes that were originally scheduled to air this Sunday"

Seth McFarland said the episodes were written over a year ago and agrees with the decision to push out their air dates until next year.

Did you hear that NBC? You might want to hold on that 30 Rock, The Office, Chuck, and Parenthood quadruple earthquake, volcano, and tsunami weekend marathon tie-in during sweeps.

Just saying…

Jon Stewart Does Bill O'Reilly - Video

It was another match made in heaven for Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" this week. He visited with long time nemesis Bill O'Reilly at FOX.

Stewart has never been a big fan of Fox, frequently jabbing the network for its loose interpretation of the "news", and heavy focus on "opinion".

Last night was no exception. John Stewart accused FOX (and O'Reilly) of causing fear and panic with his coverage of President Barack Obama, and inciting chaos and confusion with the "Tea Parties", and general dislike for anything Democrat.

There was a lot of subtle jabbing during the interview, but a full-blown, knock down drag out never materialized. But it is clear that the two celebrities have little respect for each other, or for what they do.

Our general opinion after watching the interview was simple: Jon Stewart is a cool voice of reason, and Bill O'Reilly is a jerk.

Fox News correspondent and national troublemaker Glenn Beck had a close call today.

While on air during a live broadcast on Wednesday, Beck suffered and acute appendix problem and was rushed to an unknown hospital.

Glenn was rushed into emergency surgery where his appendix was removed. Few details have emerged from Fox or other news sources.

Judge Andrew Napolitano took over Beck's hosting duties at the last minute. Glenn is expected back as soon as he recovers from his appendicitis, and we're sure we will hear all about his experience with our broken health care system.
