Doesn't seem like today was destined for funny postings. This one is just terrifying to recreational hikers. A husband and wife were hiking a lake trail within Yellowstone when they rounded the wrong corner at the wrong time and surprised a mother grizzly and her cubs. All trails and campsites are closed until further notice. Usually the fatal mistake involves negligently leaving food, not properly hung in a tree, around the campsite. This was just bad luck. When in bear country, being stealthy is not necessarily the best plan. it is best to shuffle around and make some noise to let the creatures know you are there-the opposite of what a good hunter would do. Fact is, you can't outrun a grizzly and they can climb the fuck out of a tree, too. Not a good way to go, at all. Bear attacks at Yellowstone are very rare-the CNN link suggests this was the first fatality within the park since 1986, however, searching just our own archives suggests a 70 year-old man was killed just a couple miles outside the park boundaries just last summer.
