Jai McDowell is tonight's surprise winner

Jai McDowell is the winner of the Britain's Got Talent 2011 Saturday night final.

Jai wins 100,000 and will perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Show just like past winners George Sampson, Diversity and Spellbound.

The 24-year-old from Scotland impressed viewers with his amazing voice.

Ronan Parke took second place and Boyband New Bounce came third.

Jai also beat Paul Gbegbaje (pianist), Jean Martyn (rock'n'roll keyboard player), James Hobley (ballet dancer), Les Gibson (impersonator), Steven Hall (dancer), Razy Gogonea (dancer) and Michael Collings (singer).

Despite viewing figures for the talent contest slumping following 51-year-old Simon Cowell's departure from the show earlier this year, they rose dramatically when he returned on Monday for the first Britain's Got Talent semi-final - with a record-breaking 13.5 million viewers tuning in.

Co-judges Amanda Holden, Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff have been treated to stripteases, dancing dogs and even a human hamster in the search to find Britain's most talented act.

This week Simon denied allegations Syco/Sony Music had connections with runner-up Ronan, 12 and that the Britain's Got Talent had been 'rigged' for him to be the winner.

'There has been speculation on the internet that Britain's Got Talent finalist Ronan Parke was known to and worked with Syco/Sony Music before entering the show,' a spokeman said in a statement.

'There is no truth in this story whatsoever

'Ronan first came to Syco/Sony's attention when he entered this year's competition. Syco/Sony Music will not hesitate to take whatever legal action is appropriate to prevent further publication of these unfounded allegations.'

Simon's lawyers also contacted the police to report an offence of 'malicious communications' about a blog, claiming to be by a record label executive insider, which alleged the media mogul has secretly been managing Ronan for 2 years.

Nicole Scherzinger was a special guest star on the Britain's Got Talent final. The Pussycat Doll was a winner in a white feather outfit.
