I miscounted. We’re leaving in two weeks. We are on track to master the sing-along songs and body worship teams and complete all 90 of those blessed friendship bracelets. But certainly all the practical prep and the “doing” should come second to the remembrance of the glorious riches we already possess in Christ. How much effort it takes to remember simple truth — and it shouldn’t! Such is the life. Christians leak.
Everyday is a fight, especially in taking captive my thoughts. I know the enemy wants to destroy me and render me useless over the regrets of the past year, the presently broken state of certain relationships, and other weak spots in my mind and soul. This must be the real training, and it just doesn’t stop. I am much too weak, but Lord, YOU are strong. So everything will turn out fine. Let’s do this.

By the end of June, individual travel for mainland tourists to Taiwan will be available! Exciting stuff considering the only option previously available was for arranged tour groups to visit, which doesn’t allow much for flexibility or control of what the itinerary will be. Unfortunately, only tourists from selected cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen are allowed at this time and a maximum of 500 mainland travelers are allowed entry per day. Oh well, it’s something!
So what is so special about Taiwan that makes mainland China itch to go? Shall we count the ways?
If you like bubble tea or boba, then you will love Taiwan because it is the birthplace of this magical nectar! In Chinese, we call this delectable beverage ????(Zh?nzh? n?ichá) or “pearl milk tea,” because of the tapioca balls that, I guess, are pearl like.
Taiwan’s night markets are famous for their snacks or ?? (Xi?och?,) drinks, shopping and general nightlife scene. Visiting the night markets is an absolute must when in Taiwan, and why not when food, shopping and people-watching are involved!
And while there are many other ways Taiwan is a cool place, we’ll end today with the Taipei 101 or ?? 101 (????
Táib?i 101.) With 101 floors, this building was officially ranked the world’s tallest building from 2004-2010, before it got flanked by Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Did you know that the building also functions as a sundial? Me neither!
