Noel Gallagher confirms first solo single

After a series of hints and clues about its identity, Noel Gallagher has confirmed the release of his first solo single.

'The Death Of You And Me' is out 21 August on the ex-Oasis member's own Sour Mash Records, under the name Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

In a statement, the artist explained he had not recruited a particular outfit for this record. "My manager asked me who the High Flying Birds are. They aren't anyone in particular," he said. "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is me and whoever is around at the time of whatever it is that I'm doing, a loose collective kinda thing."

Speculation about his first solo release grew last month when a cameraman tweeted he was working on a video for Gallagher and a US production company confirmed the song's title via Facebook, though both posts were quickly pulled.

Now Gallagher has released a teaser filmed on the set of the video for 'The Death Of You And Me.' The single will be available as a digital bundle that includes the promo and B-side 'The Good Rebel'.

CD and vinyl formats with both tracks will be available from 22 August. His album -- also titled 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' -- follows on 17 October.
