A book of Jarvis Cocker's lyrics is to be published in the autumn. Entitled 'Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics' after the Pulp man's "embarrassing" penchant for repeatedly using the three words in his rhyming schemes, it will be published by Faber and hit the shelves in October.

In a video interview with Faber Publishing Director Lee Brackstone, Cocker spoke of his initial resistance to the idea of compiling the book. He said: "When [Pulp's lyrics] were reproduced on the record sleeves, it always used to say 'NB Please do not read the words while listening to the recordings.' But I've accumulated a certain amount of work now and I think a lot of the appeal is that Faber have published a lot of poets I like.

"The idea that I could be allowed on the same shelf is very flattering. So I went back and looked at the words, and with that passage of time I realised some of them were alright."

Cocker revealed how he first wrote lyrics, not because he wanted to but rather because as the singer he had to: "I think for a lot of lyricists, they actually get forced into the decision to write ... If you're the singer then you have to write some words. It's not like you really want to write the words."

One set of lyrics that definitely won't make the book are Cocker's first, written when he was 15 for the track 'Shakespeare Rock'. The lyrics went: "Got a baby only one thing's wrong. She quotes Shakespeare all day long. I said, 'Baby why you ignoring me?'. She said, 'To be or not to be.'"
