The skull was unearthed during a dredging operation, along with other items dating from the early 1940s. The skull is being examined by the Joint Prisoners of War Missing In Action Accounting Center, conveniently, in Hawaii. During the 'Day of Infamy' the bushwhacking Japanese lost a mere 29 aircraft with 55 total aviators in the devastating air raid. One of the researchers asserts that based on eyewitness accounts, the skull likely came from one of three possibly from a torpedo plane hit in the engine by AA fire by the destroyer USS
Bagley. This may allow for a formal DNA match if the deceased has any living relatives back in Japan.
