Is Lady Gaga turning into Madonna?

Lady Gaga deserves all the accolades thrown at her for usurping Take That from No. 1 in the album charts, but we wonder if it is time some of the credit was directed elsewhere.

Check out these recent pictures of Gaga on stage paired with some of Madonna performing live from a different era. Play spot the difference as they choose similar outfits and bust similar dance moves.

Both are dressed in black bra and pants ensembles, both end up in clinches with backing dancers. Would Gaga be able to reveal so much flesh if Madonna Ciccone during the 80s and 90s had not pushed back the boundaries of what was accessible?

And it is not just in costumes and stage antics where Stefani Germanotta has been inspired by another American girl with Italian roots. 'Born This Way', the title track of her current album, owes much to Madonna's dance-inspired pop. Gaga has also aligned herself with the gay community, a section of society that treated her predecessor as an icon.

We are not saying Gaga is entirely unoriginal -- she would not have got this far without bringing something different to the charts, but we believe she does owe at least some kind of debt.
