Adele was forced to cancel her US tour because of laryngitis
After pulling out of her US tour because of acute laryngitis, Adele has been warned by doctors that she risks seriously damaging her voice.
She's now been advised to stay absolutely silent for at least 4 weeks - or she could develop nodules on her severely inflamed vocal chords.
'There is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctors' advice and rest some more,' Adele says on her website.
As soon as she recovers, Adele is expected to get help from vocal coach Ron Anderson whose clients include Joss Stone and Alicia Keys.
'There are commonly two approaches singers take, they are called "singing through your chest" or "singing through your head",' a source tells The Sun.
'Singing through your chest can increase the chances of callouses and nodules appearing on the vocal chords...
'Adele sings more through her chest at the moment.'
The Set Fire To The Rain singer also knows she needs to wean herself off nicotine.
She quit smoking for 2 months but couldn't keep it up.
'My voice was better when I wasn't smoking,' Adele, 23, admits.
'Within a week I noticed it had changed but I'd rather my voice be a bit sh*t so I can have a laugh.'
