VERY BAD NEWS FROM LEONARD'S MILL POND ON THE EASTERN SHORE.

A missing kayak boater from yesterday on the Eastern Shore has been found deceased around lunch time today. We have been looking at this post for a little while, and we will not speak the name of the alleged victim ourselves. We have considered not posting this at all due to so much tragedy in the world, but feel this is the perfect time to learn from tragedy. We were actually about to do a feature post on beach swimming safety/how to get out of a riptide {we may have to pull from our archives}, however, most drownings aren't in open surf conditions-they are in a lake, pond or pool. Often they are fisher persons or recreational activity participants, who encountered injury/unexpected natural conditions. Life jackets are less dorky and cumbersome these days-we used to be good swimmers 'back in the day', but if injury, mud or heart-attack/broken limb get you, man, you are going to need that life jacket. Many people are now going out onto/into the water in force this weekend. Spread the word of safety, and as we were taught, it always helps to have at least one other person as a swim/dive buddy. Needless to say, alcohol and drugs also do not mix well with swimming. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and friends.
