Before the clock on the wall hits midnight, we have to
reflect upon how England's Queen Mother towing Pete
Townshend's vehicle inspired the classic, era-inspiring rock anthem, "My Generation" on this date in 1965.
Townshend was angered that his vehicle, a 1930s era hearse, had been towed because his ride "offended" the Queen Mother. He wrote the 'in-your-face' lyrics while riding a London train after the hearse was towed from outside his flat. The insult, inconvenience and indignity inspired the lyrics "Hope I die before I get old." The lyrics were penned on
Townshend's 20
th birthday, and formed the foundation for the classic album{s} that would keep then-bickering 'The Who' intact, and allow them to become one of the greatest rock acts in history. And if you don't like it you can F-
fffffff-fade away!!
