King of Bahrain Fired Four Ministers

King of Bahrain fired four ministers who are considered incompetent to run the government. The move is the King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain as tens of thousands of citizens continue to demonstrate demanding the end of the era of monarchical power, Saturday, February 26, 2011.

According to Press TV news station, the officers who fired the minister of cabinet affairs, minister of housing, health minister, and minister of electricity. This step appears to be the latest effort Taja Al-Khalifa to quell anti-government demonstrations, which had lasted for several weeks.

The government also last Wednesday also frees 23 political prisoners. The king Bahrain also gave forgiveness to the Shia opposition leader, Hassan Mushaimaa, who on Saturday returned from exile in Lebanon.

However, people are still not satisfied. In a demonstration today in the capital city of Manama, the protesters insisted that the constitution be changed and the king's power should be ended.

At least seven people were killed by protesters clashed with security forces since pro-democracy demonstrations began on 14 February. Bahrain is actually dominated by followers of Shiite Muslims, as many as nearly 75 percent. However, members of the kingdom are Sunni Muslims who dominate power.

The protesters complained about the injustice of rulers and social gap between the Sunnis and Shiites. They also demanded the government to hold elections and release all political prisoners.
