It is a disease that has touched as, as well as so many others, personally. In fact, we think it is now among very few diseases in modern medical history that are actually increasing at record numbers. Medical science has allowed the body to thrive many more years, but cognitive abilities have not been able to keep pace. We praise "The Rhinestone Cowboy" for having the strength and candor to admit the challenges he faces in hopes it may help others struggling with the disease, or as we know-the caretakers and loved ones who sometimes bear the more heartbreaking burden of watching helplessly from the side. As our "Baby Boomer" population ages, be aware of the warning signs, and the fact that given certain odds this horrible, slow, killer may look you in the eye someday. We need candor, increased research and an "It takes a village" mentality to fighting this dread disease. Even if we can not find a cure-may we find love, patience and understanding. And may we all be strong enough ourselves to allow those stricken to fight their final battle with love and dignity. I could care less about building some Jawa savage a fucking bridge in Afghanistan, or donating to a political campaign so some turd can attend black-tie affairs to garner votes. Open your minds, and wallets, to stem cell research, and training a younger generation to take needed jobs as nurses, physical therapists and other caregivers. Campbell plans a final farewell tour and album before the inevitable overtakes his capabilities to provide us that which comes from his heart and soul, which will still remain intact even though his brain may fail.
