"AND WHEN THE MISSOURI LEVEE BREAKS, I'LL HAVE NO PLACE TO STAY!!"

However, in this case, the levee was blown up by the Army Corps of engineers to ease epic flooding that was actually flooding places people 'stayed at' in Missouri. The Ohio River around Cairo, Missouri had reached such dangerous heights {over 60 feet} that Draconian measures were employed yesterday to blow a portion of a nearby levee, which would allow the water to flow out into uninhabited farmland, and hopefully save the residential/commercial areas. There was a bit of a Constitutional crisis/battle, but the US Supreme Court said 'move along...move along" and didn't get involved. the first series of detonations late yesterday have at least stop the rising of the tide, and levels have dropped at least a foot already.

A very interesting story regarding how Mother nature, the Constitution and grim pragmatic thinking are all intertwined. The bottom line for us is, how can you tell people they have to lose their homes when the alternative is a lot of unused, empty farmland. It also makes you think about things like building homes in the future in flood areas/hurricane path zones, and why if you get homeowners insurance, you are going to pay for it. It also gives us a great opportunity to play a righteous Led Zeppelin song.
