As close as we can come to world oblivion today is the fact that one of Iceland's many volcanoes went kaboom! today. Although this one has not messed with air travel to/from Europe as badly as the one a year ago, the area is a little known volcanic hotbed. If you ever go there in January, after you enjoy the 18 minutes of daylight, go to the outdoor baths of "Blue Lagoon" about 20-30 miles outside Reykjavik-it is actually a constant, geothermal natural spring/spa heated by the volcanic lava below. If you go, never, EVER go to the 'infamous' restaurant that does the "Viking Feast." We shared a bus with people who got dropped off there, instead of going to the spring. When we returned we were relaxed and mellow, and the people coming out of the restaurant were actually green. You see, they experienced the menu which features, well, pretty much rotten bait, with the feature dish being shark pieces that had been buried underground for several months. Needless to say, we hit hotel room service for fish and chips. You couldn't get a good cheeseburger there, probably still cant, because they were scared of mad cow. So they had horse on the buffet instead. We can only recommend Iceland for 24-48 hours total, if you have to stop over to get better ultimate Europe destination package deals, or if a meteor has hit the airplane and you need to put her down somewhere dry. BTW-We saw these pictures in advance; and knew not to go to the "Viking Feast." The middle picture shows some of the unsavory tidbits; the top shows the shark-and we don't know how we forgot this part; before they bury it in the ground somebody urinates on it. Check, please!!
