The Holy Scripture confirms that at the end of days many will come up to say they are servants of God, whereas they serve their selfish selves. This may be the case with two very popular pastors who are at all times known for controversy. Pastor Christopher Okotie of the Household of God and Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter-Rain Assembly have so many things in common, the first being that the two pastors were at a time practising lawyers; they also at different times ventured into politics, claiming God had something or the other doing about it. Okotie who is so popular for his mind-blowing grammar that his congregation would rather go to service with a dictionary instead of bible, while Bakare is known for his criticisms of other pastors, a situation that had at several times pitched his followers against those of other churches.
One other thing that the two pastors have in common is the ability to stir controversy. The first happened in 2008 when Chris Okotie chose to remarry after he had divorced his first wife Tina. The controversy started when Okotie, during the thanksgiving service on August 10 2008, told his congregation that the Holy Spirit revealed to him that his bride had never been married and that the woman who was married was dead and that this one (Stephanie who at that time had 3 kids from her previous wedding) is born again and a new creation and he supported it with relevant bible quotations. Though he agreed she was once married, he was quick to say the bible did not really condemn re-marriage even when the former partner is still alive.Though many men of God in the country cried to high heavens overthe statement and called it heresy, Okotie was stoutly supported by no other than Pastor Tunde Bakare who quickly came to his defence, stating that it is not un-biblical. He was even at the thanksgiving to show solidarity with the man whose marriage to Stephanie at the time had pitched many members of his church against him, as he had on many occasions before that time been accused of having sexual relationship with one member of his church or the other. The lovers, it is said, were hoodwinked into hoping that they may be asked by the pastor to marry him if he wanted to settle down. But to the surprise of all of them, he chose to marry Stephanie who happens to be his late friend’s wife
