"Nonviolence is the answer
to the crucial political and moral
questions of our time: the need for
man to overcome oppression and violence
without resorting to oppression and violence.
Man must evolve for all human conflict
a method which rejects revenge, aggression
and retaliation.
The foundation of such a method is love."
Martin Luther King, Jr.,
Nobel Prize acceptance speech,
Stockholm, Sweden, December 11, 1964.
Recently my son wrote a paper about King,
and one of the books he referenced
was Strength to Love which I can't
recommend enough.
King's sermons and thoughts in the book
changed and deepened me in
an unexpected way.
Is there anything so challenging
or critical as loving our enemies?
Is there anything so challenging
or critical as loving our enemies?
So happy to honor him today.
