Sarah Richardson - 13 Farmhouse Chic Inspirations.

Sarah Richardson

has a new re-do
I can't wait to tivo on HGTV
you can watch online at hgtv!
(LOVE adorable sidekick TOMMY, BTW.)

Sarah's House
proves 'farm' and 'chic' can co-exist,
and these images from hgtv.com
highlight the innovative design.

post here for more pretty.

1.
Antique corbels
create balance when adding lots
of modern enhancements to a farmhouse kitchen.

2.
Shades of grey
work magic with stainless appliances.

3.
Comfy high quality barstools
upholstered in a fresh print (oilcloth!) add more luxury and comfort-value than rustic old antique stools or metal French ones we might expect to see.

4.
Farmhouse architecture means
you don't have to take yourself too seriously.

How inviting is this farmy foyer?
Rosy doors and hardware are pure genius.

5.
Expensive or boring
stairway runners
have no place here.

6.
Paisley,
dots, a herringbone-ish quilt, and
a rooster on a clock  juxtapose beautifully
(it's illegal in some states to use 'juxtapose' like I just did).

7.
Not every piece of
wood furniture
in a farmhouse must be painted!

(A white painted 4-poster would maybe have been 'the expected' here.)

8.
Burnt orange, apricot, and garnet
punch up neutrals
without overwhelming.

(Honestly I have no idea how SR accomplishes this...
that's why it's design voodoo...
also, am I the only one who sees Jesus
in the wood grain of the clock?
VERY farmhouse rock and roll, Sarah.).

9
Seriously. No words.
Unicorns, a crown, a crest...
the piece deserves to have a home designed around it.

10.
'Farmhouse' can be
romantic
and feminine.

11.
Sometimes the bones of a farmhouse are worth honoring.
Here, SR went renegade with her kitchen design...
and built a
lower counter/cabinet
so the window could live on...
flippin SMART and inspiring.

12.
Oodles and oodles of beautiful showing-its-age
maple hardwood flooring.

13.
Restful spaces
in a farmhouse can feel clean,
not cold,
nostalgic yet modern.
